Welcome to Thieves and Thyme, my first attempt at blogging. Where did the name come from? Well, while trying to create non toxic household cleaners, I came across Thieves essential oil and did some research on its history and found it compelling. It is believed that in the 14th or 15th century, during the time of the bubonic plaque, a band of thieves would go into the homes of the dead and steal their belongings. When they were caught, they were asked how they survived without contracting the plague. They said that they wore masks that contained an intense mixture of herbs, and thus the recipe for Thieves essential oil was born.
As for the thyme portion of the name of my blog, a lot of what I enjoy doing involves herbs and it sounds good with thieves.
I’m a special education teacher, mother of 3 grown boys, wife to my best friend, gluten/dairy free, living with MS, trained chef, and interested in living a healthy and greener life.
I decided to start this blog to share my interests in creating appealing, tasty, gluten/dairy free meals, non toxic cleaners and skin care products, and general happy living with my friends. I will post recipes and occasional reviews of products, restaurants, shops and other entertainment for you to peruse.
I believe that food can heal. As someone living with MS, I have seen the effects that eating certain foods have had on the way that I feel. While this blog will not be about food and MS and is not meant to give any medical advice, I will share some of my favorite recipes, foods and thoughts about my experiences.
I hope that you will share your thoughts, recipes and ideas in the comment area. Thanks and enjoy! Julie
